Public Utilities- Billing Information

Utilities Service Billing

Ketchikan Public Utilities bills all electric, water, waste water, garbage, and solid waste disposal fees on the same bill. Utilities services are billed separately from telecommunications services. Electric consumption is billed monthly for the usage in the prior billing period. Water, Sewer, and Garbage Collection are all billed as flat rates for City residents. Borough residents must contract with independent providers for these services. All residential KPU utility accounts are also billed an area-wide Solid Waste Disposal fee and an Electric Customer Charge.

Customer billing cycles are determined by the service location. Customers are divided into four billing cycles, indicated by the first digit of the customer account number. (1xxxxx-001 would be Cyle 1, 2xxxxx-001 would be Cycle 2, and so on).

Electric Billing Cycles:
Cycle 1- Bills post on the 5th of every month, due the 31st
Cycle 2- Bills post on the 12th of every month, due the 6th
Cycle 3- Bills post on the 19th of every month, due the 14th
Cycle 4- Bills post on the 26th of every month, due the 20th

Telecommunications Billing

There is one billing cycle for Telecommunications Service, which bills on the 1st of each month and is due by the 25th of each month. If there is a past due amount, that amount is due by the 15th to avoid disconnection. Telecommunications are billed for the month in advance; any prorates on a statement are prom the previous month.

KPU has a 3-month minimum for telecom services. If services are cancelled prior to the 3-month minimum, the next or final bills will reflect the charges for the remainder of the 3 month minimum.

Late Payments/Penalties

Any unpaid balances after 25 days from the billing date are considered delinquent, are subject to a 5% late payment charge and may be subject to disconnection. Any account that has been paid by a check that is returned for Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) will be charged a non-recurring charge of $30.00 and may be subject to immediate disconnection without further notice. This also applies to rejected Recurring Credit Card or ACH (Automated Clearing House) payments, if your account is on autopay.
