Police Department - Investigations Division

The Investigations Division  is supervised by the Lieutenant and has primary responsibility for investigating crimes against children, white-collar crimes, and computer crimes. The Division also provides investigative support for the Patrol Division for major felonies and domestic violence assault incidents. The unit is staffed by one Sergeant and two Detectives. The department Drug Enforcement Officer is also assigned to the Division as well as the Evidence Custodian.


Crimestoppers :  Support Services provides the department liaison for the Crimestoppers Board of Ketchikan. 

Evidence/Found Property : Evidence in criminal cases is required to be stored for at least three years after the conclusion of the case. Found property that has been turned in by the public may include bicycles, jewelry, keys, and wallets/purses. Those items are stored from one to six months. The department holds two public auctions a year to dispose of unclaimed found property.

Drug Educations and Awareness:  The Division provides programs to the community during Red Ribbon Week, and gives presentation to the High School students to include drug and alcohol education. With the use of Fatal Vision Goggles and Drunk Buster Karts students receive hands on education about the effects of drugs and alcohol and operating a motor vehicle.

Officer Friendly and Halloween Safety:  Detectives visit all local element schools and give presentations about personal safety and situational awareness to children.
